CRICKET: The 79th encounter between Ananda and Nalanda is certain to end in a draw as Ananda crawled for 299 minutes to make 256 on the first day at the SSC grounds yesterday. Nalanda made 46 for no loss when stumps were drawn for bad light at 4.55 p.m. Ananda put into bat lost Udara Jayasundara for 8 but a useful 2nd wicket stand of 63 runs from Dinesh Chandimal who struck a fine 55 with 10 fours and Prabath Seneviratne 20 with 3 fours lifted the total to 86. The top scorer of yesterday Udara Peiris anchored the Ananda innings with a defiant unbeaten 85 which included seven fours and one six and together with Ishara Wickremasinghe were associated in a valuable seventh wicket partnership to help swell the total. Ishara stroked a good innings which included four fours and one six. The bowling honours were shared by two pacemen Chathura Wickremasinghe 2 for 25, Ashan Priyanjan 2 for 46, and two spinners Amal Attapattu 2 for 46 and Dilshan Munaweera 2 for 43. Altogether nine bowlers were used by Nalanda. Media facilities were pathetic. The writer had a big problem to get match details from the SSC main scoreboard.
