March 5: Cleanup Australia Day
Clean Up Australia Day has successfully grown each year to make this community event the largest annual environmental campaign in Australia. This Day is now firmly entrenched in the Australian calendar. It is an apolitical, non-profit community campaign in which everyone can participate. This year's Clean Up Australia Day is on Sunday 5 March 2017.
Every year hundreds of thousands of Australians help clean up their local environment on Clean Up Australia Day. It is lot of fun and everyone can take part.
During the past 10 years we have taken the responsibility for cleaning up Mordialloc Creek and Epsom wetlands. In the past, we have had more than 20 volunteers (Old Anandians and their family members, representatives from other Sri Lankan schools) taking part in the cleaning up activities. After the cleaning up activities were over, all of us were feeling elated knowing that we have made a small contribution to the country we call home now, by participating in this important event.
Once again we have selected Mordialloc Creek and Epsom wetlands as our designated site. We need as many volunteers as possible on the day. Although we have taken the initiative, we would like to make this a project by Sri Lankan schools alumni associations. We look forward to seeing a lot of volunteers from Sri Lankan schools alumni associations at the clean up site on Sunday 5 March 2017.
We are planning to commence clean up activities at 8.00am and conclude by 12 noon. We are planning to provide finger food and drinks to our volunteers after clean up activities are over.

Nov 25-27: Camping at Croajingolong National Park
For the first time we are planning a 3 day camping trip to the pristine wilderness area of the Croajingolong National Park. This coastal national park is situated in the east Gippsland region closer to the NSW border. Covering 875 square kilometres this park boast an amazing range of rivers, tributaries, forrest and beaches, and is listed as one of the twelve world biosphere areas in Australia. These remote and secluded camping spots are far off the main towns with no mobile coverage and absolutely minimal facilities. Campers get the opportunity to enjoy the solitude, walk the spectacular sand dunes, bush walks, walk to the point hicks light house, enjoy icy cold waters of the Thurra river inlet, take in the majestic sunsets on desolate beaches, and enjoy a campfire, sing-song and a yarn with their mates.
